Like pretty much everyone else, I’m a Project Runway addict. So shoot me. I claim to be a hip urban parent; I didn’t say I was a dead fish. I need my downtime too, you know.I sat last night and watched the various designers have hissy fits while Michael — with that pained look on [...]

Add to myYahoo!MILAN (Reuters) - The amount of a controversial chemical bisphenol A (BPA) found in baby bottles is tiny and cannot harm human health, the European Union’s top food safety body said on Wednesday reacting to recent health concerns. Earlier this year, a heated debate over BPA safety sparked in the United States and Canada after various [...]

Add to myYahoo!Hi there Mink Baby,
Today is the second day that I have done some work on my own business, which is swiftly taking shape.
It's going to be called Mamapalooza.co.uk
Why?
Because I like sound of the word and according to the definitions I have read it seems to fit in well with what's in store for every new mama.
If you are curious to find out more you can look at definitions of the world 'palooza' here and here.
But in a nut shell, the word 'palooza' is suffixed to another word to indicate a chaotic state, usually something exciting (but not necessarily comfortable) that may leave you a bit nuts.
(Sounds like pregnancy and motherhood to me!)
So there you go!
It's a essentially going to be a babyshower company offering the following products & services:
* Gifts for mums-to-be, new babies and new mums
(Pamper products, baby gros etc.)
* Baby Shower Parties
(Think Ann Summers parties but replace sex toys with baby shower gifts, invitations, decorations etc)
* Baby Shower Planning
(We help to plan babyshowers & take care of RSVPs, ordering decorations, gift list admin etc.)
* Baby Shower Hosting
(We take on the role of host so that who ever is throwing the shower can enjoy the party)
I had a hard time yesterday, trying to find somewhere to work that was practical, trying to write a business plan etc. But today I decided to just throw all that to the wind and go ahead and plan as though I was going to launch the business in one month. So I started to look at what products I would like to sell and just began contacting businesses and asking about their wholesale policies etc and before I knew it, things seemed to be moving.
So far people have been so nice and helpful, it's been a wonderful day. I really didn't expect that I would be so warmly received. I suppose it helps that many of the companies I will be dealing with started out as small, home-run businesses, often by mums (or parents) and so they understand the challenges I face as a one-mum-band, so to speak.
I rang Claire, who is to be my partner in crime for this venture, and she kindly concurred - so the decision to just do it has been seconded. Phew! She is my internet marketing guru and general web goddess, and were it not for her, none of this would be possible (I sound like I'm giving an awards speech, but you know what I mean!).
We agreed that from a business structure point of view, we need to aim for a limited liability partnership or a limited company for the future but for now, we are best served if I set myself up as a sole trader, as it's simpler by far.
This is very trusting of her, and I am grateful to her for making it so much simpler as I would totally have understood if she had decided she wasn't happy with that. I know she doesn't have much time to devote to what we are doing, but her contributions will be vital, as I said before, and there is no way I would let her do so much important work for mamapalooza.co.uk and then cut her out of it. I think she knows that. But now it's there for the record.
Thanks Claire!
We decided very early on that we are going to make our business, its services and products as eco-friendly as possible. This doesn't mean that I'm about to become a born again eco warrior overnight (or even at all) but it does mean that, like many people, I am re-evaluating my wasteful ways.
I know it's a corny and vom-worthy cliche but it is true that often, when you have a baby, you do start to feel anxious about the way things are going, environmentally-speaking. Of course you don't need to have a baby to start thinking that way, and some might say that at the age of 30, I've taken my sweet time about it, and they would be right. But better late than never, I always say.
So yes, it's true, I'm not the greenest person by any stretch of the imagination, but in a way, that's kind of the point. This blog is going to eventually become part of mamapalooza.co.uk's website, and although it will still contain a lot of MinkBaby-related posts, pictures and videos, I am going to use it to blog about all sorts of things, including my exploration of all things eco-friendly, and hopefully this blog will come to document many positive changes in my life in that area.
I am also hoping that my friend Linda, who was originally going to run this company with me, will still consent to be involved in what we are doing, even if it's not in the way we orginally talked about. Either way, I really hope that my continuing with this project won't cause any more upset, which it did a few months back, to my dismay. She has a great business idea of her own that I am hoping she will pursue, because I want to buy her products and sell them to my customers! So here's hoping for positive outcomes across the board!
So yes, MinkBabyDotCom is in for a shift in focus, or at least many more foci (not, it's not focuses - poncy of me I know, but I looked it up here) but none of this would be happening without you, little Mink Baby, so don't feel left out! Mamapalooza may be the new kid on this block but you still come first.
xxx

Add to myYahoo!Lifestyles Channel is doing a “Picnic Promo” and I decided since I don’t cook unless it comes out of a box I’d talk about picnics.
