One question strikes fear in the hearts of men and women of childbearing age.Is there sex after parenthood?Yes, of course there is.Just a lot less of it.In fact, it’s worth looking into “sensual birth” just to get some additional closeness in before the baby arrives.I used to hate talking about sex. Now, though, readers of [...]

Add to myYahoo! These unique WubbaNub Pacifiers are attached to cute stuffed animals and were invented by a mom who was tired of her baby getting up and crying several times each night because his pacifier fell out. The idea behind these pacifiers is that babies can hold onto the plush toy to keep it in [...]

Add to myYahoo! The problem with any sort of social network and me is that it is, well, a network (aka requiring some innate technical ability) that is social (and therefore fraught with ways to make many faux pas). Not only did I send Facebook requests to a whole lot of people -- and then write about it, but I also somehow failed to send Facebook requests to a whole lot of other people -- who then read about it. So now I have people thinking "she sent me a facebook request and didn't really mean it" (I did! I did! Well, maybe not to my doctor's receptionist but she's good people too so why not?) and other people thinking "my god, she sent to everybody and his dog, but not to me!" (I really have no idea how that happened and I am working on it! Please do not take my technical ineptitude personally!)
I really do want to, as Caitlin Flanagan once put it, have a big tent. I am exclusive by nature simply because I am naturally incredibly shy (I find it hard to order pizza over the phone at times). So I surround myself with my core group of people and approach others as mere acquaintances. Some people seem to collect friends like stamps but I have never been that way. I've always been in awe of people who have been in touch with the same people since elementary school, who have kept friends from every camp they attended and every job they worked. Who over the summer kept in touch with the other moms at the park whereas I am reconnecting with them for what feels like the first time.
Given my rather shy and introverted nature, I know that I will never be one to be out there, a social butterfly, those around me feeding my energy stores instead of draining them. But I feel that Facebook might be a bit of a middle ground. A way to keep in touch with those I know and think about often (that means you from elementary school and you from university and you from the park) while respecting my own need for space.
Facebook had also put me back in touch with a dear old friend from High School which is worth its weight in gold.
